I’d like to take a moment and express the feeling I get when I have people asking me “is there anything free, that will let me edit my photo, kinda like Photoshop, but free”. Well the answer to that would be yes, but I normally like to have a little fun with people by telling them that “google is their friend”. Of course that really never seems to work because the people to whom I happen to be giving the advice to don’t actually take it literally. But now lets pretend I didn’t say any of that and lets get to the good stuff.

The OSSwin project has a huge selection of free/open source applications that can pretty much rival their commercial counterparts. The have everything from applications that help your burn your favorite cd’s, to ones that help you edit movies. The Gimp, is an exceptionally good one, being a free alternative to photoshop.
